I paint landscapes either on location, or from my sketches and photographs in my studio. Most of my large paintings are done in the studio using this method. Whenever I travel, I take lots of photographs. This has been a vast source of reference for my studio work. It is
best to start with small sketches when painting anything, but really helpful when painting from a photograph. It helps in figuring out the composition and values. It is also interesting to do a series of paintings from the same location.
